No joke: when Ricky finally came out, the first thing my mom said was “at least my mother died believing he was still straight and she’ll never know the truth.” (Plus, it was family lore that Ricky dated a female cousin of mine back in Puerto Rico actually dated him.) My grandmother took her love for Ricky very seriously.

(I also saw Ricky Martin in concert once.)
